Chest caving in
One gasp of air
Then suffocating
Again
Thick yellow fat
Oozing down into my
Lungs
Can’t breathe
The light of freedom
Still fresh in my
Mind
Tired now
This marathon
Taking every drop of
Energy
Muscle fibres weakening
Bones splintering
Persevering
I must rest
And finish this
Tomorrow
Plodding forward
Heavy lead foot after
The other
The ecstasy and
Despair, quickly interchangeable
Like the weather
Dizzy from the descent
But I know I will rise
Again
I still taste the fresh
Kiss of freedom
Remember it’s air as it
Slid into my lungs
Now clogged and
Not breathing
But
They will breathe
Again
